CIMB Group Holdings Berhad (CIMB) and China Galaxy Securities Co. Ltd. (CGS) announced that, their respective wholly-owned subsidiaries CIMB Group Sdn Bhd and China Galaxy International Financial Holdings Limited (CGI), have completed the sale and purchase of 50% interest in CIMB Securities International Pte Ltd (CSI). With the completion, CIMB and CGS have now become 50:50 shareholders of CSI (the JV) and CSI will be rebranded as CGS-CIMB Securities once regulatory approvals are obtained.

CSI is the holding company of CIMB’s ex-Malaysia stockbroking business comprising institutional and retail brokerage, and equities research in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, South Korea, India, the UK and the USA. The transaction would improve CIMB’s cost-to-income ratio by over 100 bps and Core Equity Tier 1 ratio by around 10 bps.

Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Accenture, Think City and MIMOS Berhad to drive collaboration and active involvement in Malaysia’s entrepreneurship development as part of MaGIC’s Corporate Entrepreneurship Responsibility (CER) network. The MOU signing took place alongside a panel discussion on “Shaping the Industries of the Future”.

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau witnessed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) exchange between MaGIC CEO Ashran Dato’ Ghazi and Accenture Country Managing Director Azwan Baharuddin, MIMOS CEO Ahmad Rizan Ibrahim, as well as Think City Program Manager Duncan Cave.

McDonald’s announces goals to improve its packaging and help significantly reduce waste to positively impact the communities the company serves around the world.  

By 2025, 100 percent of McDonald’s guest packaging will come from renewable, recycled, or certified sources with a preference for Forest Stewardship Council certification. Also by 2025, the company has set a goal to recycle guest packaging in 100 percent of McDonald’s restaurants. McDonald’s understands that recycling infrastructure, regulations and consumer behaviours vary city to city and country to country around the world, but it plans to be part of the solution and help influence powerful change.

Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd (CGPV), developer of the upcoming Forest City township in Johor, has chosen Trimble Malaysia to equip its Industrialised Building System (IBS) base with technology solutions aimed at increasing productivity, efficiency and level of service at the precast plant. 

CGPV’s IBS base, which was announced back in August last year, is said to be the largest of its kind in the world when completed. Trimble’s technology solutions will provide essential fabrication data for the ERP system that runs the IBS base and integration with Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes, among others. Future implementation will streamline operational flow at the factories – from design phase to fabrication and downstream quality assurance/quality control inspection – thus optimizing the entire supply chain workflow.

PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB), a subsidiary of PETRONAS, has awarded its contract for the provision of maintenance, construction and modification services (MCM) at its offshore facilities in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak to five local contractors.

Carimin Engineering Services Sdn Bhd, Dayang Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Deleum Primera Sdn Bhd, Petra Resources Sdn Bhd, Sapura Fabrication Sdn Bhd and its joint venture partner Borneo Seaoffshore Engineering Sdn Bhd were selected for the five-year contract with an option to extend an additional year which took effect in September last year.
