The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Datuk Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, attended a Yasin recitation and prayer ceremony held in conjunction with the opening of the Langkawi outlet of Manager's Coffee at the Kuah jetty, last Friday.
The Yasin recitation was led by 40 students from the Quranic school, Maahad Tahfiz Darul Amar, Langkawi.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that the Langkawi outlet of Manager's Coffee would begin operations right after the ceremony.
"I sincerely hope that this business venture, which is a part of the university’s effort to generate income, will be blessed by Allah and that the revenue from this business will be able to help the poor and the needy through the channel of Islamic tithes (zakat).
"Apart from this, this enterprise is also a boon in that it has opened employment opportunities for the residents of Langkawi," he said.
This restaurant is the second of its kind after the launch of the first Manager's Coffee outlet on the UUM campus, which began operations early this year.
The official opening of the Langkawi branch of Manager's Coffee is expected to be officiated by the Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK), Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, on 26 August.
Manager's Coffee, the latest brand among UUM products, offers premium-quality coffee that matches its unique brand, for a discerning market. In addition to serving choice coffee, the restaurant also provides dining facilities not only for members of the UUM community, but also for visitors to the legendary island, thus promoting the UUM brand as one among the front-runners in the coffee business in Malaysia.
