- He was the Secretary-General of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) since 2004
- He served as the Chief Minister of Penang between 2008 and 2018.
- He was first elected as a member of parliament from Kota Melaka in 1986 after he defeated Soh Chin Aun with a majority of 17,606 votes.
- He is the Member of Parliament since 1986.

Interesting Facts about Lim Guan Eng
- His father, Lim Kit Siang, is a renowned politician and a prominent leader of the Democratic Action Party (DAP). Kit Siang is currently the MP of Iskandar Puteri. His wife, Betty Chew is also a member of the DAP and was once a state assemblywoman in Malacca.
- He graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Economics. He was also the president of Monash University International Student Society.
- He was sent to prison twice by our current Prime Minister. He was first thrown into jail in Operation Lalang 1987, detained under the Internal Security Act. The second time was in 1998, he was charged under Sedition Act and The Printing Presses and Publications Act for causing ‘dissatisfaction with the administration of justice in Malaysia.’ Now, he works hand in hand with the Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to make a change in Malaysia.
- The friendship between the Guan Eng and Mohamad Sabu, current Defence Minister, blossomed when they met in Kamunting Dentention Centre where they both detained during Operation Lalang 1987. Some supporters of Lim Guan Eng and Mat Sabu have been calling them BFF.
- Under his leadership as Chief Minister of Penance from 2008 till 2018, Penang was praised as the best financially managed state in. According to the AG report, the consolidated fund of Penang has increased by 2.7% from 2009 to 2010. Likewise, the consolidated fund in 2009 to 2010 has surged by 6.2%.
