- Muhyiddin defended his seat in Pagoh with 23,558 votes, beating UMNO’s candidate Ismail Muhammad (16,631 votes) and Ahmad Nawfal Mahfodz from PAS (2,483 votes).
- He also won the Gambir state seat with 10,280 votes, overthrowing MIC’s M. Asojan Muniyandy (7, 192 votes) and PAS’ Mahfodz Mohamed (1,806 votes).
Political history:
- Muhyiddin started his political journey as an UMNO member at the Pagoh division in 1971. He then steadily climbed up the political ladder, from an ordinary member of UMNO Pagoh division to Johor UMNO leader. He was elected as Menteri Besar Johor in 1986. Muhyiddin was appointed as Minister of Education and Deputy Prime Minister in 2009, but was dropped from his position and sacked off UMNO in 2015. He formed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) with Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir in 2016. He is the Chairman and President of PPBM.

Muhyiddin served under four Prime Ministers
In 1987, he served as Johor Chief Minister under then Tun Dr Mahathir’s government. When Tun Abdullah Badawi became the Prime Minister in 2003, Muhyiddin was appointed as the Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry and later Minister of International Trade and Industry. When Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak took over the Prime Minister office in 2009, he appointed Muhyiddin as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education. Currently, under Malaysia’s comeback Prime Minister, Muhyiddin is the Minister of Home Affairs.
Muhyiddin is the father of Najwa Mahiaddin
Award winning singer Najwa Mahiaddin is Muhyiddin’s daughter. Najwa’s uses the spelling Mahiaddin (which was how his name name was actually spelt in his My Kad).

Over the years, Muhyiddin has been granted the title Tan Sri, Dato’, Dato’ Seri Diraja, Dato’ Seri, Dato’ Seri Utama, Datuk Seri Panglima, Datuk Patinggi and Dato’ Sri.
He is loyal to Pagoh
Muhyiddin was the MP for Pagoh parliamentary seat in 1978 and 1982. In the 1986 election, he left his seat to run for a state seat where he was subsequently appointed as Johor Chief Minister. Muhyiddin returned to Pagoh parliamentary seat in the 1995 General Election and continuously winning the seat until the recent election. He mooted the idea of having an education hub in Pagoh which consequently brought together four universities namely International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and Politeknik Pagoh .
He is the second oldest Cabinet Minister in the current line-up.after Dr. Mahathir
