At the core of the Next-Gen Smart Ward is a suite of integrated technologies designed to revoluEonise every facet of paEent care. With customised real-Eme monitoring systems and automated tools for healthcare professionals and paEent communicaEon, the Next-Gen Smart Ward heightens responsiveness and empowers doctors, nurses, and paEents to make more informed decisions about their health. The iniEaEve builds on MMC’s successful deployment of its Hospital InformaEon System (HIS), seamlessly integraEng IoT-driven devices and digital workflows to transform the care experience for paEents.

• Task SimplificaBon: 100% eliminaEon of manual data entry ensures accuracy and prevents human errors.
• Time Efficiency: 37% faster Eme from discharge iniEaEon to dispensing take-home drugs.
• PaBent-Centred Tools: Real-Eme updates on discharge, procedures, and meal plans enhance paEent saEsfacEon scores by 87%.
• Environmental Benefits: The technology supports MMC’s sustainability goals by significantly cu]ng down on paper usage, marking a criEcal step toward an environmentally conscious and eco-friendly hospital.

In today’s highly integrated digital world, paEents are looking for healthcare services that are convenient and highly personalised to their needs. These evolving expectaEons have been shaped by advancements in digital technologies and by the changes in healthcare delivery standards brought about by the pandemic. To ensure the Next-Gen Smart Ward meets the demands of paEent-centric healthcare systems while improving the quality and efficiency of nursing care delivered to paEents, MMC carried out an intensive two-month pilot program in selected wards. This iniEaEve unlocked the capabiliEes of the new Next-Gen Smart Ward technology, se]ng the stage for a smooth and impac^ul hospital-wide rollout.

Results from the pilot programme found:

• Faster and Safer Care: The speed of response for criEcal report noEficaEons and acEons taken has improved by 16%.
• Enhanced Engagement: PaEents can now acEvely parEcipate in their care through self-service tools, improving their overall warded experience. Specific paEent requests were a‘ended to 22% faster, enhancing paEent saEsfacEon rates and overall comfort in the ward.
• Bedside Empowerment: Doctors can explain diagnosEc results directly at the bedside using integrated digital tools, fostering more insigh^ul discussions between doctors and paEents.
• OperaBonal Efficiency: Enhanced safety protocols through automated ID scanning reduce errors during procedures.

The launch of the Next-Gen Smart Ward event at MMC, graced by the presence of YAB Datuk Seri Ab Rauf bin Yusoh, Chief Minister of Malacca, underscored his unwavering support for innovaEons that enhance Malacca’s reputaEon as a leading healthcare hub. Aligned with the Visit Melaka 2024 campaign and World Tourism Day 2025, YAB Datuk Seri Ab Rauf passionately arEculated how digital transformaEon iniEaEves like the Next-Gen Smart Ward launch at MMC are instrumental to a‘racEng medical tourists, which aligns with naEonal ambiEons to establish Malaysia as a premier medical tourism desEnaEon. 

This transformaEve iniEaEve, developed in partnership with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital under the strategic guidance of HMI Medical, signals a bold new chapter in evolving the way healthcare professionals interact with paEents in the ward. To deepen the exisEng synergisEc partnership forged between HMI Medical and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the launch event, underscoring a mutual commitment to exchange experiences and knowledge in smart hospital implementaEon and digital transformaEon projects which will advance healthcare innovaEon through shared experEse and promoEon of medical collaboraEons.
