Malaysia-based ICT solutions provider Glocomp Systems (M) Sdn Bhd has partnered with key industry players to foster sustainability adoption in the manufacturing sector.
This partnership involves the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and Microsoft Malaysia, with support from the Digital Ministry.
These partners share a common goal empowering manufacturers with digital solutions to strengthen their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices.
Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo said such initiatives represents a major step forward in integrating digital innovation with sustainability efforts within Malaysia’s manufacturing sector.
“This strategic public-private partnership is the result of extensive collaboration and commitment from all parties involved,” he said during the launch ceremony of the Public-Private Strategic ESG Collaboration.
“They have all been working tirelessly to realise this public-private partnership that Malaysia is most proud of, bringing together the right expertise, technology and industry support to drive meaningful change for the greater good of our nation’s manufacturing sector,” he added.
He also highlighted that by harnessing advanced digital tools and utilising Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate processes and boost productivity, manufacturers can streamline ESG reporting, track emissions, and optimise resource usage to strengthen their sustainability efforts.
“Malaysia’s digital economy must be aligned with international sustainability benchmarks to ensure our industries remain competitive in the global supply chain. With multinational corporations prioritising ESG compliance, local manufacturers need to embrace sustainable practices to maintain market access and attract new business opportunities,” he stressed.
“The adoption of ESG-focused digital solutions should go beyond meeting regulatory requirements to serve as a strategic investment in Malaysia’s industrial future. By leveraging technology to drive sustainability, Malaysia is strengthening our position as a leader in responsible manufacturing and reinforcing our already strong reputation as a forward-thinking, globally connected economy,” he added.
At the heart of this collaboration is the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability Pilot designed to empower businesses with AI-driven analytics, emissions tracking and seamless ESG reporting.
Glocomp managing director Joseph Giam said by embracing globally recognised ESG practices, manufacturers can enhance their competitiveness in key export markets.
“The true goal of ESG is to serve as a catalyst for sustainable growth and long-term business resilience,” he shared.
“By integrating digital solutions to measure, track and optimise sustainability performance, our manufacturers can unlock new market opportunities, improve their positioning in global supply chains and boost the nations’ standing as a responsible and innovative manufacturing hub,” he added.
The Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability platform aims to enable manufacturers, particularly FMM members, transition the data-driven ESG practices by providing access to AI-powered sustainability tools.
“The pilot will offer selected FMM members the opportunity to implement and test advanced digital solutions for tracking emissions, streamlining ESG reporting and aligning with international sustainability standards,” said FMM vice president Jacob Lee.
In addition, the pilot is empowered with advanced AI—driven analytics, pre-built ESG compliance workflows and emission tracking capabilities so that manufacturers are able to unify and manage their sustainability data seamlessly in a user-friendly manner.
“FMM is proud to support this initiative, which equips manufacturers with the tools to integrate ESG into their operations more effectively,” said Lee.
“This pilot will help businesses enhance sustainability practices while staying competitive in global markets.”
Microsoft Malaysia managing director Laurence Si described the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability as a key step in advancing ESG goals throughout Malaysia.
“As global sustainability becomes more urgent, organisations need tangible tech solutions to help them move faster. This new collaboration reinforces Microsoft’s commitment to helping drive Malaysia closer to its digital and sustainability ambitions.”
:By collaborating with government, associations and industry, we aim to empower manufacturers to unlock innovation and better position them to seize opportunities in the global green economy,” he added.
The MIDA Domestic Investment Accelerator (DIAF) was launched last year to help reduce subscription costs for FMM members, making the pilot more accessible to local manufacturers. DIAF is a matching grant initiative introduced to support Malaysia-owned Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Mid-Tier Companies (MTCs) in the manufacturing and selected service sectors.
The scheme aims to facilitate the transition into ESG practices by providing financial assistance on a matching basis, either 50:50 or 70:30, depending on specific cases. The maximum reimbursable amount per company is RM500,000.
The Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability Pilot is now open to FMM members to participate, offering unique opportunity to lead the sustainability transformation in Malaysia’s manufacturing field. Manufacturers interested in joining the pilot can contact MDEC or FMM for further details.
