Motorola Solutions commenced its collaboration with the Malaysian Communica-tions and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) by becoming the latest partner in the Commission’s Check Your Label and Mobile e-Waste initiatives for communication devices.
All across Malaysia, Motorola Solutions’ two-way radio devices are being deployed in sectors ranging from transport, manufacturing, oil and gas, hospitality to retail. With devices being used in a multitude of businesses and industries, it is crucial that two-way radios are certified to ensure operational security and productivity.
Devices without the MCMC label could be counterfeit or illegal to use and could endanger the users as it could cause electrocution, fire and electromagnetic radia-tion, which may exceed the safe exposure limits specified by the international standards. Non-certified devices may also cause interference and might not be compatible for use with the local communications networks.
“It is the responsibility of MCMC as the regulator for communications and multi-media, to lead the drive towards ensuring that all communications devices used in this country are safe for their users. Similarly, we would also like to ensure that after their use, the environment is also taken care of through safe and environ-mentally-friendly disposal and recycling of communication devices,” remarked Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus, Chief Officer of Communications and Digi-tal Ecosystem Sector, MCMC during the launching ceremony.
“We welcome and greatly appreciate the participation of MNCs such as Motorola Solutions in this initiative, as we believe greater impact can be achieved through this collaboration,” he continued.
“At Motorola Solutions, we are deeply aware that safety is at the heart of all our operations and cannot be compromised. Two-way radios that are properly certi-fied comply with high safety standards and ensure smooth, secure business opera-tions for our customers,” says Mike O’Connor, Vice President, Radio Channel Sales, Asia Pacific, Motorola Solutions.
“In addition to protecting our customers’ operations, we are also very supportive of the Mobile e-Waste programme in order to dispose of our two-way radios in an environmentally-safe mode,” he continues.
The Check Your Label mobile application can be downloaded via Google Play or Apple App Store, where the IMEI or serial number of the device can be keyed in to check if it is certified by SIRIM as the certifying agency appointed by MCMC. In the meantime, the MCMC’s Mobile e-Waste programme is on a mission to collect Mo-bile e-Waste devices at more than 150 collection bins set up at the premises of 25 partners across the country. Recyclers will then gather the waste and transport them to a facility where urban mining will take place.
