Shokubutsu & the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) have collaborated to give back to the community and raise awareness of the importance of regular breast self-checks to help women to detect the early symptoms of breast cancer and seek early prevention.
KPWKM deputy secretary general (Strategic), Dr. Hishamuddin Bin Mohd. Hashim and Southern Lion Sdn. Bhd R & D and Factory director, Naoyuki Egawa attended the Shokubutsu ‘YOU are my pink reason’ campaign event.
Held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month and aligned to the Shokubutsu ‘YOU are my pink reason’ campaign, in cooperation with KPWKM and National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), provided free clinical breast examinations to KPWKM staff via the Shokubutsu Pink Ribbon Mobile Truck.
Conducted by NCSM nurses, KPWKM staff were not only screened but were also taught the correct method on conducting breast self-examination and symptoms to look out for in breast cancer.
The Shokubutsu ‘YOU are my pink reason’ campaign is now in its 4th year since 2015 and Shokubutsu forges ahead leading efforts to cultivate the habit of doing breast self-checks during shower as it is one of the most convenient method to detect abnormalities that signals for immediate medical attention which can help lead to early detection of breast cancer and increase survival rate.
“We are happy that many women came forward to get their breast examinations this year and to date, we have examined 386 women in three Klang Valley locations and out of that number, 17 (4.4 per cent) women were detected with suspected lumps in their breasts and were advised to proceed with further checks.
“This reiterates the importance of early detection and treatment as essential steps in fighting breast cancer,” said Egawa at the event.
KPWKM received RM10,000 worth of 3D mammogram vouchers by Shokubutsu for women detected with suspected lumps in their breasts or those unable to attend the on-site screening session to get screened at NCSM’s clinic located at Kuala Lumpur.
In attendance at event was NCSM medical director, Dr. Murallitharan Munisamy and NCSM head of Cancer & Health Screening Clinic, Dr. Dalilah Kamaruddin.
Breast cancer is currently the top cancer in women worldwide, and 1 in every 30 women is at risk of this disease in Malaysia, 43 per cent of breast cancer cases in Malaysia are found in late stages (stage 3 and 4).
At its advanced stages, breast cancer presents a much lower survival rate and a high recurrence rate due to the cancer cells spreading to the lymph nodes and or to other parts of the body, if breast cancer lumps or tumours are found early, it has a higher chance of being treated successfully, which improves a patient’s survival rate.
With the Shokubutsu ‘YOU are my pink reason’ campaign this October, Shokubutsu will donate 10 sen for every unit sold of Shokubutsu Fresh Shower Foam, Shokubutsu World Famous Bathing Series and Shokubutsu Active Guard Anti-Bacterial Body Wash to National Cancer Society Malaysia with the donation amount targeted at RM25,000.
