ICT leaders and decision-makers are urged to work with the government to further grow the digital economy in this country.
“I ask you to use your leadership qualities not just for the betterment of your companies but also for our country,” said Minister of Communications and Multimedia Gobind Singh Deo at the PIKOM Leadership Summit 2018 (PLS 2018) event held here in Petaling Jaya yesterday.
The Minister points out that Malaysia is no longer what it used to be.
“This is the New Malaysia or Malaysia Baru, which provides us with new opportunities – doing away with the old ways of doing business, old ways of thinking, old ways of decision-making. This government will govern in a transparent and open manner,” he added.
Gobind promises that the present government will be business-friendly while maintaining an open economy.
“At the same time, we will work to ensure that our citizens are given the right infrastructure, talent development and business opportunities to be successful in this country and abroad.”
“We want Malaysia to be a place which attracts talent, particularly local tech talent. We want it to be a vibrant hub for start-ups and a place where our local tech companies become the envy of the region, if not the world,” he said.
Gobind, however, understands that it is indeed a difficult task but one that is certainly achievable and no to mention, not without precedent.
“To those of us old enough to remember that early days of the MSC, you would remember that Malaysia was already recognised at that time as a leader in the ICT space. It is time for this country to lead again.”
The PLS 2018 is a core programme by PIKOM that provides the ideal platform for hundreds of thought-leaders and C-Level participants to network with some of the big names in the Malaysia’s ICT industry and at the same time, learn the latest trends and insights in technology. The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is the strategic partner of this event.
For the first time, the Embark on the Digital Revolution-themed PLS 2018, is being held together with Smart Sourcing Summit, the flagship business leadership event of Outsourcing Malaysia, which is a chapter of PIKOM.
Chief Executive Officer of Fusionex and PLS 2018 organising chair, Datuk Seri Ivan Teh, said there will be many conversations at the two summits, covering Artificial Intelligence, Industry 4.0, Blockchain, Security and much more.
“These technologies are shaping the world we live in and I hope the discussions that we will have today and hereafter will also spur us to action and embark on the digital revolution,” he said.
Some of the interesting presentations at the event were Human Intelligence vs Artificial Intelligence, IR 4.0 – What Businesses Need to Know: The Taiwan Experience, Cyber Security – Beyond Data and IOT as well as Driving and Catalysing Digital Transformation with Blockchain
