PERSOLKELLY Malaysia wholeheartedly welcomes the government’s 2022 National Budget for its attention and emphasis in shaping Malaysia as an inclusive nation that cares for its people.
Realizing diversity in the workforce
The government focused their attention on minority groups including people with disabilities, indigenous people as well as ex-convicts. For employers that hire staff belonging to these minority groups, the government will be incentivising their wages for a whole year period. Training programmes and support are also set in place to ensure work readiness.
We applaud this approach as it signifies that in the planning for the nation’s road to economic recovery, the people are not forgotten. With this, employers will also benefit from having a larger talent pool who are able to bring different skillsets to the table.
In addition, we note that there are a number of initiatives targeted for women, specifically to encourage women in employment as well as a mandatory policy for there to be at least one woman among the board of directors of public listed companies.
This is a decision that is more than welcome and long anticipated by PERSOLKELLY, as both men and women should be given equal opportunities, acknowledging that women are no less competent when it comes to taking on a decision-making role.
On this note, we hope to highlight that organisations play a crucial role to protect and retain their employees. Organisations must take charge to implement a framework which empowers women who may have secondary duties out of office to not be discouraged or compelled to neglect either role.
That said, we call on the government to look into what more can be done for retirees. It is important to understand and respect that not only do the older generation of workforce bring with them vast experience, but some also remain fit for employment and are able to continue playing an active role in contributing to our nation’s economy.
Readiness for additional opportunities
This year, the government introduced additional policies for the younger generation including fresh graduates looking for employment as well as young entrepreneurs.
In line with PERSOLKELLY’s role in providing workforce solutions, we are elated at this news and are confident that the government is on the right path to reduce the nation’s fluctuating unemployment rate and improve our overall economy.
Employers will be encouraged to hire more fresh graduates and young job seekers, while the younger generation who are keen to start their own business will now be supported throughout their entrepreneurship journey.
The government has also announced several policies concerning the healthcare system such as the procurement of anti-viral medicine to continue combating COVID-19 as well as a separate allocation on mental healthcare.
In consideration of plans for additional job opportunities, the investment in healthcare is timely as we adapt to the new normal. Through the government’s funding for a stronger healthcare system, both employers and employees can have a better sense of security and ultimately nurture a healthier and more productive workforce.
Digital as the way forward for nation building
Following through the government’s launch of the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL) earlier this year, the government’s announcement to build on this initiative comes as an exciting news.
Amid the rapidly changing economy, digital infrastructure is pivotal to attract foreign direct investment into the country. With continuous effort onto this initiative complemented with the variety of workforce upskilling programmes announced, we are confident that the outcome would catch the eye of foreign investors who are looking to recruit skilled talents from Malaysia.
All in all, we commend the government’s initiatives to encourage its people that in the coming year as we move out of the pandemic, there will be a better road ahead for Malaysians.
