[KETEREH, 04 NOVEMBER 2021]: In its efforts to assist students, especially from vulnerable communities, with online learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) contributed 200 units of Huawei MatePad T10 tablets to Lower Six and Upper Six students in Kampung Chengal, Ketereh, Kelantan.
The handover ceremony was officiated by Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Annuar bin Musa, Minister of Communications and Multimedia, who is also the Member of Parliament of Ketereh, who accepted the tablets on behalf of the students.
Also present was Mr Michael Yuan, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia.
Tan Sri Annuar emphasised how COVID-19 has affected different classes of society disproportionately and as the world transitions into a more digitalised era, it is vital that those who are the most vulnerable in our societies are paid attention to and assisted.
“The pandemic has proven the importance of recognising the significance of being a digitalised economy. It is critical for students at this age to have the proper resources to be connected.
“Accessibility to online learning, particularly in remote places within the country, has been a great concern to the government. Thank you Huawei Malaysia for your continuous contribution in assisting schools and students in overcoming this barrier to online learning. This is the first step to narrowing the digital gap and to provide these students with the ability to adapt to and embrace digital transformation,” said Tan Sri Annuar.
Mr Yuan said that Huawei believes that everyone deserves the right to high-quality education and is committed to assisting Malaysia’s technological development. Huawei Malaysia, he added, has initiated various programmes to equip young Malaysians with the knowledge to partake in the Digital Economy.
“We at Huawei believe that it is our social responsibility to give back to the communities in every country we operate in. Our vision is to be a responsible value-driven organisation. The pandemic accelerated the need for digital inclusion and with online, remote and hybrid learning becoming a necessity, we at Huawei want no one to be left behind. With this contribution, we hope to help those from rural communities and those facing hardships, to be able to continue their education without interruptions.
“We remain focused on supporting the development of school children by ensuring they have the right equipment and resources to be connected. Given our technological expertise, we have always been highly invested in providing digital solutions to bridge the digital divide,” said Mr Yuan.
Huawei Malaysia has played an active role in supporting local communities across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the education sector and remains focused on supporting the development of students by ensuring they have the right equipment and resources to ensure the continuity of their education.
