In August 2021, WorldRemit announced its entry into Malaysia's remittance industry, one that was largely dominated by offline players by taking the ecosystem of money transfers to the online arena, when the company launched its money transfer services.
This move allowed customers to send their money how and when they like by cash pickup, bank transfer, mobile money or air-time top up via an avenue that is safe, fast and efficient yet simple. Available on both Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store, the WorldRemit mobile application is available for free and allows customers to transfer money online in a matter of minutes to more than 130 countries from Malaysia.
Customers can get started in minutes, but for those who are just discovering the service or making their first transaction, here’s a run-through on utilising the app for money transfers.
#1: Sign Up
By following simple step-by-step instructions, users are able to seamlessly start transferring money to friends and family across the globe.
First, they will need to create a unique 4-digit pin code. Upon creation of a pin code, an email will be sent to the registered email address to upload relevant documents for verification purposes, as per Malaysian law.
#2: Complete Registration
Once users have filled in the details and passed the security checks, they are set to begin exploring the application and make their personal digital money transfers.
Users can also opt to receive latest offers, services, as well as be up-to-date on exchange rates via SMS, so they never miss an offer or update from WorldRemit.
#3: Make Your Transfer
Users can send money quickly by clicking Send New Transaction from the home page, all they need to do is select the country they’d like to make a transfer to and the amount they’d like to transfer.
The app will then show users the exact amount they have to pay based on real-time exchange rates. This total carries no hidden charges, so users do not have to worry about hidden fees required after the transfer. The application will then give users payout options available in the country they would like to transfer to.
Financial Process Exchange (FPX) is a popular Malaysia-based payment method that allows customers to complete transactions online using their bank credentials, for your first transfer you can even use FPX or Debit. Consider using this when choosing a payout method, to allow easier ways to fill in and store recipient details. They should ensure that all the details provided are correct for seamless transfer. Finally, they will be led to the payment microsite, depending on how they choose to make the transfer on their end.
Once the transfer is completed, users will receive a confirmation email with all the details of their transfer.
#4: Manage Your Transfer
The WorldRemit mobile application allows users to manage their transfers once it has already been made. There are a few features that can be used for this purpose.
Transfer History allows users to view all ongoing and completed transfers and download receipts. With Transfer Status, users can check where their money is, every step of the way.
They can even opt for Whatsapp updates for their transfer status. For users who’d like to transfer money to a previous recipient, they can simply choose to Resend Transfer.
