SHAH ALAM, 28 December 2021 – The devastating floods caused by severe weather conditions from two weeks ago have wreaked havoc on thousands of homes throughout the nation. To assist affected communities in the recovery of the disaster, Canon Marketing Malaysia (“Canon” or “the Company” ) has contributed RM25,000 to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (“MRCS”) that would supply essential items to the rakyat.
For those who went through the ordeal, it has been unbearably painful to return home to see their belongings destroyed. With this relief fund, MRCS is able to step up the food and medical supplies distribution efforts, especially in Selangor, which was greatly impacted.
“The floods have resulted in the loss of lives and property destruction to the local communities. Many survivors are still living in temporary shelters in relief centres. We are very grateful and encouraged by Canon’s offer to lend a helping hand in support of our humanitarian efforts. The contribution will enable us to help communities rebuild their lives,” said Malaysian Red Crescent Society Secretary General Tuan Haji Hakim Bin Haji Hamzah.
In addition to this effort, Canon is extending assistance by contributing RM500 to each employee affected by the flood. The Company is also raising funds through personal donations collected from staff members in order to further alleviate the struggles of its employees.
“I’m moved to witness the unity and kindness from our staff members. Their dedication to supporting colleagues and the local community is the true spirit of our corporate philosophy, Kyosei - which means living and working together for the common good,” said Andrew Koh, President and CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia. “We are proud to support non-profit organisations like the Malaysian Red Crescent Society which has played an active role in assisting survivors on the ground throughout this whole calamity.”
