SELANGOR, 25 March 2022 – Selangor Youth Community (SAY) under the patronage of HH Raja Muda of Selangor in partnership with Prince’s Trust International, a global organisation founded by HRH The Prince of Wales, has embarked on an initiative to support struggling youths through a 9- week personal and professional development journey with various activities involved. This year, realising that young people are even more in need of this opportunity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a collaboration with Social Welfare Department (JKM) has been put forth which involves those from high-need and at-risk category under 18s from institutions under the Social Welfare Department.
To celebrate the milestone for these young people, a reception was held with our young people, supporters and all stakeholders involved which served as a final celebration event to mark the end of their Team journey. The event, which took place at Sunway Hotels and Resorts in Petaling Jaya, was graced by His Highness Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj of which His Highness was briefed about the journey of the young people in individual as well as group presentations.
Since its inception in June 2020, Team Programme has delivered many rounds of cohorts with Cohort 6 being the first group conducted for below 18 in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department. The cohort has been running since early January 2022. Through the rigorous courses and activities offered, Team Programme aims to become the catalyst for the participants to meaningfully reintegrate into the society through employment, education and training opportunities. Throughout the 9 weeks, participants have gone through an intensive journey of self-discovery and skills- matching which will assist them in planning their future.
His Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Raja Muda of Selangor said “From today’s presentations, we can see how much these young people want to build better futures and are resilient to achieve their goals and be better in life. It is important to acknowledge that while some paths may be closed due to certain privileges (race, gender, religion, family, socio economic background) we all have the same desire to make a change in our lives.
In Team Programme, we help our young people to break through the barriers. We have worked really hard to design different modules in different stages and work with different stakeholders that are willing to give exposure and opportunities to our young people in hope that we can produce well- rounded individuals. We have always believed in the effectiveness and impact of collective actions. We welcome anyone who shares the same values and objectives in making a difference in the lives of struggling youths out there”.
On top of the celebration event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed between Selangor Youth Community and the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development represented by the Social Welfare Department (JKM). The MOU is signed to foster a long term partnership between SAY and JKM which can benefit the wider community through the programmes conducted.
Apart from that, in line with the three (3) months post progression plans included as part of the programme framework, an MOU has also been signed with Manforce Group Berhad, a private entity that acts as an employment agency approved by the Ministry of Human Resource. This partnership aims to connect young people in Team Programme to employment opportunities in various industries. With this partnership, young people under the programme will be guaranteed with employment opportunities once they complete the nine (9) week journey.
