KUALA LUMPUR, 09 May 2022: The British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) is set to host its third edition of the Business Excellence Awards on 26th May at Sunway Resort, Sunway City. The flagship event is designed to recognise commerce and honour the very best of UK and Malaysian companies and individuals across a range of achievement categories. More than 400 attendees from relevant industries are expected to grace the Awards Gala Night – with an exclusive three-course dinner served by the first-ever international outlet of Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill. The event signifies the BMCC’s commitment towards enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries and further enhances the BMCC’s status of being amongst Southeast Asia’s most prolific Chambers.
HSBC Bank Malaysia stamps its mark as the event’s Platinum Sponsor whilst British Council Malaysia and EcoWorld International act as the Silver and Bronze Sponsor respectively. Distinguished partners for the event are the University of Nottingham Malaysia, Royal Selangor, Malaysia Airlines, Sunway Resort and The Edge Malaysia. The event is supported by the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur.
H.E. Charles Hay, British High Commissioner to Malaysia, commended businesses for their resilience, agility, creativity, and hard work in the last two years. After a two-year hiatus, the prestigious awards makes its return to offer a higher standard of recognition to companies and individuals who have excelled and progressed the business landscape between United Kingdom and Malaysia. The Awards reflect the growth, stride, and achievement of any company or individual in relevant industries, hence further exemplifying the relevancy of being recognised as a pioneer or industry leader. Some of the previous winners from 2019 include renowned brands such as Sports Direct, Sunway Medical Center, PwC Malaysia, Capital DK, and Teach for Malaysia.

This year, the BMCC is proud to celebrate success through seven awards categories. Companies have begun submitting their nominations for the available categories, vying for a prestigious solid pewter accolade custom-made by Royal Selangor.
1. UK-Malaysia Business of the Year
The pinnacle achievement, this award recognises a UK company investing in Malaysia or a Malaysian company investing in the UK, having displayed a stellar track record of investment in the opposite country by building on its successful local business, bringing mutual economic benefit to both nations.
2. UK-Malaysia Partnership of the Year
This award celebrates an individual or company that has successfully partnered with a UK or Malaysian counterpart. The joint-venture collaboration and synergies created through this partnership will have driven exceptional commercial results and shown significant value-creation to the economy, capitalising on the best of UK and Malaysia expertise through a seamless partnership.
3. UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership
This award recognises a UK higher or further education institution that has partnered with Malaysian organisation(s) to deliver significant impact in the last 5 years. The joint-venture collaboration and synergies created through this partnership will have driven exceptional results and shown significant value-creation for the education sector in Malaysia, capitalising on the best of UK and Malaysia expertise through a seamless partnership. This award is sponsored by the British Council Malaysia.
4. UK-Malaysia Export Excellence
This award recognises a UK company exporting to Malaysia or a Malaysian company exporting to the UK, having displayed a stellar track record of exports to the opposite country, bringing mutual economic benefit to both nations.
5. Diversity & Inclusion
This award recognises and celebrates organisations across all industries that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to fostering the spirit of diversity and inclusion within the workplace through effective strategies and initiatives.
6. Technology & Innovation
This award is given to an organisation that has successfully pursued new solutions through the application of digital, innovative, and disruptive technologies to operate with greater efficiency, and ultimately contributing to Malaysia’s productivity enhancement and paving the way towards technological advancement, especially in the last two years.
7. Outstanding ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance)
This award seeks to recognise the achievements of a company that has demonstrated outstanding achievements in adopting ESG practices and ultimately contributes significantly towards the environment and communities, as well as advocating for these initiatives within their industry, supply chains and clients. This award is sponsored by HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad.
