SELANGOR, 10 OCTOBER 2023 – Daiso Malaysia Group Sdn Bhd announced a monumental partnership with the KAJIMA-SUNCON joint venture, represented by Kajima (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd, for the development of a cutting-edge New Global Distribution Centre (GDC) in Port Klang, Malaysia.
The GDC will serve as a global distribution hub for Daiso, facilitating the inbound logistics of Daiso products from countries such as Japan and China, ensuring the smooth outbound distribution to 22 countries across Asia and the Middle East. This strategic move will bolster the availability of Daiso products in these regions.
The signing ceremony of this transformative collaboration was graced by the presence of Dato' Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Selangor Chief Minister, as well as witnessed by Mr. Seiji Yano, President, Daiso Industries Co. Ltd, and Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Khairul Adib bin Abd Rahman, Chairman, Daiso Malaysia Group Sdn Bhd.
“Today, we stand on the threshold of a transformative journey for Daiso Malaysia Group. Our commitment to innovation and excellence has brought us to this momentous occasion, and we are honored to partner with KAJIMA-SUNCON to make our vision a reality. This New GDC is a testament to our unwavering dedication to logistics excellence and our commitment to fostering economic growth within the local community,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Khairul Adib bin Abd Rahman.
Daiso's New GDC is designed to be a one-stop center that will enhance the overall efficiency of its supply chain. By centralizing product supply within Malaysia, Daiso aims to control and manage lead times effectively, ensuring timely product deliveries to customers. Spanning an impressive 130,000 square meters, the New GDC is set to handle a diverse range of products, including kitchen tools, cleaning supplies, personal care items, stationery, and more, totaling an estimated 35,000 Stock Keeping Units (SKU).
With a substantial investment of RM1 billion, the construction of the GDC is scheduled to commence in May 2024, with an expected completion date in May 2026. Notably, the New GDC will be integrating state-of-the-art Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) technology into its operations, in collaboration with Murata Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. This strategic decision signifies the dedication to a logistics revolution aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, precision, and speed, aligning perfectly with Daiso's commitment to excellence in its operations.
The decision to select Malaysia as the prime location for the New GDC, particularly in Port Klang, stems from a comprehensive evaluation of several critical factors. Over time, Malaysia has consistently emerged as a strategic hub for both inbound and outbound logistics, owing to its world-class infrastructure and the remarkable accessibility and efficiency of Port Klang. It has long been favored as a gateway for regional trade, thanks to its strategic positioning, enabling seamless connections to global markets, making it the ideal cornerstone for the New GDC project.
The establishment of the New GDC will result in a significant increase in container traffic at the local port, leading to enhanced port operations, improved efficiency, and increased capacity. This growth in economic activity will create a surge in demand for labor across various sectors, from dockworkers and truck drivers to logistics managers and administrative staff. Beyond employment opportunities and economic growth, the New GDC will foster a sense of stability within the local community, creating a positive cycle of economic growth by a ripple effect.
“We are pleased to witness this groundbreaking partnership between Daiso Malaysia Group and KAJIMA-SUNCON. This project aligns with our vision to elevate Selangor's position as Southeast Asia’s hub for trade and logistics. It reflects our commitment to attracting high-value investments that drive economic growth and create quality employment opportunities for the people of Selangor,” said Dato' Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Selangor Chief Minister.
Daiso Malaysia Group extends its heartfelt gratitude to Invest Selangor Berhad and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) for their unwavering support throughout this transformative journey, towards forging a future where innovation meets sustainability, and where growth benefits not only the company but the entire community.
