Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (“MODENAS”), a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Berhad, today commemorates a historic achievement as it begins exporting the Kawasaki ZX-6R assembled in its factory here, to China.

This event holds special significance as it not only celebrates MODENAS' success but also highlights the successful partnership between MODENAS and Kawasaki which has a history that goes back more than 30 years. MODENAS is only one of two non-Kawasaki companies in the world to produce motorcycles for the brand.

The momentous milestone was marked by Roslan Roskan, Chief Executive Officer of MODENAS, sealing four containers containing a total of 112 units of export motorcycles. Present at the ceremony were Badrol Ghazali, Head of Inland Tax Department, Kedah State Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Lee Hock Ben, Head of Facilities and Facilities Control, Kedah State Royal Malaysian Customs Department, as well other members of the management of the Kedah Royal Malaysian Customs Department and MODENAS.

“Today’s milestone not only marks the strength and depth of our partnership with Kawasaki, but also underscores MODENAS’s manufacturing capabilities and skills, as well as commitment of our workforce,” Roslan said.

“The strategic collaboration between MODENAS and Kawasaki has expanded both our brands' product offerings, as well as facilitated the exchange of technology, strengthened networks and paved the way to enter new markets. All these have certainly contributed further to our mutual growth and success,” Roslan added.

The export of motorcycles to China coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the People's Republic of China, helping to accentuate the significance of business collaboration and enduring ties between the two nations.

During the event, MODENAS also shared insights into the meticulous assembly process of the ZX-6R, showcasing Kawasaki's advanced technology. Kawasaki’s selection of MODENAS as the chosen Southeast Asian factory for the ZX-6R underscores its production quality, cost efficiency, and delivery performance.

In September 2023, the MODENAS factory here underwent a rigorous audit conducted by the China Quality Certification Center (“CQC”) and was officially certified as a factory capable of producing products for export to China. This certification is in addition to Kawasaki’s recognition of competency accorded to MODENAS.
