About Social Sabbatical
SAP’s Social Sabbatical is an award-winning Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) portfolio designed to both utilise and develop talent at SAP, while helping nonprofits and social enterprises focused on powering opportunity through digital inclusion to run at their best. SAP employees are placed in highly diverse teams to dedicate their skills, expertise, and know-how in a unique, short-term assignment.
Empowering Local Change Makers
The SAP Social Sabbatical program in Kuala Lumpur has partnered with four social enterprises: 42KL, MySkills Foundation, Women of Will, and Biji-Biji. Over the program, SAP employees used their professional skills in areas such as strategy development, marketing, financial planning, operations and process management to solve organisational challenges and strengthen the capacity and skills of these organisations.
SAP CSR supports businesses that put people and the planet first.
SAP aims to pioneer an ecosystem where businesses prioritise both people and the planet, shaping the future economy. Recognizing that many social enterprises are not yet ready to enter B2B social procurement, SAP has implemented programs to help them scale, offering personalised consulting by SAP employees both in person and virtually.
To date, the social sabbatical has worked with 531 social enterprises in 54 countries impacting 7 million lives and engaging 418,000 volunteer hours. 98% of the social enterprises report satisfaction with the experience and deliverables of the Social Sabbatical.
Success Stories
One of the notable beneficiaries of this initiative is 42KL, a unique computer science school with no fees, no classes, and no teachers, aiming to develop tech talents over the next few years. Through the collaboration, SAP consultants stepped in to help 42KL develop and execute a powerful marketing and outreach plan that appeals to potential students, industry leaders and funding partners. As a result, 42KL will be able to create a steady stream of student enrolment and corporate support, facilitating not only the expansion of the program but also ensuring graduates secure meaningful employment opportunities within companies.
Another success story is MySkills Foundation, which supports at-risk youth in Malaysia by transforming school dropouts through attitude shifts and market-relevant technical skills, helping them reintegrate into society. With SAP's intervention, MySkills Foundation received a strategic business roadmap for its social enterprise, Primus Wellness, creating more opportunities for at-risk youth, stimulating the local economy, and improving the foundation's financial health, operational efficiency, and revenue growth.
