In line with the Government’s mission of increasing the number of knowledge workers to 35% by 2020, AIMSMET Executive Education Sdn Bhd designed one-of-a-kind programmes in commercial management through life-long learning and practical training for students. At an event in Cyberjaya, AIMSMET, Malaysia and Institute of Commercial Management (ICM, UK) launched ASEAN’s first landmark collaboration for the digital economy.
Yang Berusaha Mr. Abu Bakar Koyakutty, MATRADE's Senior Director of Exports Promotion and Market Access Division, graced the event with his presence and officially launched the programmes.
The aim of this collaboration is to bridge the gap and speed up the pace in producing knowledge workers through the private sector. Speaking at the event, Yang Berbahagia Mr. Abu Bakar Koyakutty said, “Malaysia is working towards producing more knowledge workers in the wake of the digital economy. The Government is collaborating with the private sector to ensure that we are on track with our target to achieve 35% in the next three years.”
Also present to witness this event was President and CEO of AIMSMET Executive Education, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Jayles Yeoh said, “We are projecting to have 5,000 of ready skilled talents across the industry. In doing so, the industries are preparing their own skilled labor in line with the Government’s efforts in skilled labor by 2020.”
He added that AIMSMET is ambitiously looking to revolutionise the academic thinking by introducing real life education to ensure no misfits to the digital economy.
Mr Adair Somerville Ford, Chairman and CEO of ICM, UK said the institution is fortunate to have been a preferred partner in education as the answer for future talents.
“Practical training is heralding the way forward for the Digital Economy, and the transition to becoming a high-income status nation is only possible when the learning structure is optimised and the industry is well-prepared for the economy of the future,” said Adair.
10 industry sponsorship partners including Only World Group Holdings, Gintell (M) Sdn Bhd, Marrybrown, Metro Optical Group, Minori Japanese Restaurant, Malaysia International Exhibitors Association, Pecol Engineering, AIA Malaysia, Starbucks Coffee Malaysia and AIMSMET Executive Education were announced at the press conference. These industry partners will be sponsoring their future talents to undergo one year training through the ICM,
UK programme at Asia Metropolitan University where the students will be working towards their UK qualifications. Also, recognised at the event were International Executive MBA partners including International Entrepreneur Network, Teresa Chew International, ADLA Group and Brandker Academy.
The event was held at AIMSMET, Cyberjaya and was attended by students and industry partners.
