June 29 2022 - German-based Mobility Solutions Provider looks to Malaysia for support in building Drive System of the Future
EDAG Group (EDAG), a global mobility solutions provider headquartered in Germany, will be expanding their presence, services and capabilities in Malaysia. This move will create 500 jobs by 2024 and enable the company to grow its ability to serve existing and future clients in the region, and globally.
EDAG will invest RM3.75 million (EUD 750, 000) in 2022, with further investments planned. These investments contribute to its objective of EDAG becoming the Mobility Hub of the Future in Malaysia.
The global engineering provider is no stranger to Malaysia, having established their presence her 25 years ago. From this location, EDAG Malaysia supports global initiatives spearheaded by EDAG Group in Germany, with a focus on CAE or computer-aided engineering simulation projects.
EDAG Malaysia currently contributes to direct customer projects in Asia, in countries like Malaysia, China, Thailand, Japan, and Taiwan.
With EDAG Group’s renewed focus on Malaysia, EDAG Malaysia will create an electrics/electronics (EE) department to serve the Group’s global engineering network. The EE department will do so, by increasing its capacity in Embedded Software, Mobility IT, and Integration & Validation.
EDAG’s vision for Future Mobility
Connected mobility is not a pipe dream.
Today, connected mobility is spurred forward by the advent of disruptive technologies like 5G, sensors, Internet of Things, Cloud computing, virtual reality … the list goes on.
Now, there is also wider acceptance of transportation that is low-emission and environment-friendly, energy-efficient vehicles (EEV) - that is supported by a network of charging stations at strategic locations for convenient recharging.
As ways of thinking about transportation gradually evolves, societies and communities are open to embracing connected mobility that gets them to where they need to be in a timely and safe manner, and at the same time enable convenience, as well as rich and seamless experiences.
The permanent exchange of data and information is what makes a future mobility ecosystem possible.
A medium-size vehicle has around 7000 different auto parts that are always transmitting and receiving driving data, as well as data about the environment the vehicle is operating in, data about the state of materials the vehicle is made of, and overall performance of the vehicle.
To enable all of this and more, EDAG Group is strengthening its Software and Digitalisation competencies, in interdisciplinary areas from vehicle engineering to production engineering, and vehicle development to electronics specialisation.
As a trendsetter and independent developer for the automotive industry, EDAG creates holistic mobility solutions for multiple environments and use cases, internationally and close to where the customer is.
Think mobility software, smart factories, connected services, and a connected city that is automation-intensive and environment-friendly.
This is Future Mobility.
EDAG’s plan to be the Mobility Hub of the Future
EDAG Malaysia’s expanded office space in Shah Alam will house a new Electrics/Electronics (EE) department focusing on Software & Digitalisation, Integration and Validation.
By the end of 2022, Embedded Software, Mobility IT and Integration & Validation are anticipating an increase in manpower by 120 talents at the end of 2022.
EDAG Group’s investment in Malaysia is anticipated to expand Vehicle Engineering (VE) and Electrics/Electronics (EE) capability in Malaysia via knowledge transfer like training, by making available more technical expertise and resources.
Ultimately, this will:
- Create jobs for 500 headcounts by 2024
- Thrive the local automotive ecosystem
- Create quicker and smarter production processes relevant for the local manufacturing industry with IR4.0-like technologies (cloud computing, IoT, advanced materials, big data analytics, and blockchain)
- Galvanize the nation’s ambition to grow Malaysia as a hub for mobility solutions expertise and talent to converge
