GoCar Malaysia and Shell Malaysia Join Forces to Support Healthcare Frontliners

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 APRIL 2020 — In a gesture of support for the Malaysian government’s efforts to flatten the COVID-19 curve, GoCar Malaysia and Shell Malaysia are joining forces to make travel easier for the healthcare frontliners. From now until 14 April 2020, GoCar is offering 200 Nissan Almera located at 127 Shell stations across Peninsular Malaysia for free, and Shell is giving RM 30 vouchers to fuel the journeys of our Malaysian healthcare frontliners during this time.

Tesco to recruit for over 600 vacancies across supply chain

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 April 2020: Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is looking to recruit over 600 new colleagues for the next eight weeks, to meet the unprecedented demand brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic as well as in anticipation of the upcoming Ramadan and Hari Raya celebration.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a sharp increase in demand for food and household products.  At Tesco, we are working around the clock to help ensure families have access to the shopping items they need. To help us step up and meet demand, we would like to bring in over 600 new colleagues to work in our stores for at least the next eight weeks,” said Tesco Head of People, Alvin Low.

Canon Medical Systems Corporation (CMSC) Announces Rapid Genetic Testing System for the Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2)

SHAH ALAM, 3 April 2020 - Canon Medical Systems Corporation (Headquarters: Otawara, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan; President and CEO: Toshio Takiguchi), working together with Nagasaki University, has completed development of Genelyzer KIT1, a set of reagents for SARS-CoV-2 RNA testing based on a gene amplification technique known as the fluorescent LAMP method2. The results of validation of the rapid genetic testing system employing this technique were released in a report titled "Validation of 2019-nCoV gene testing method in which clinical evaluation results were obtained using clinical specimens"3 issued on March 26, 2020, by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases of Japan. This report showed a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 90% or more. Based on an administrative notification issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare4, the rapid genetic testing system has been granted approval for practical application in government-conducted testing.
