YTL Cement, Malaysia’s leading building materials group, and Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to launch the nation’s first Concrete Awards. This partnership marks the beginning of a collaboration dedicated to casting a spotlight on outstanding achievements in architecture and innovation and showcasing the versatility of concrete as a building material.
The Concrete Awards will highlight the transformative power of concrete in its role of defining and shaping the built environment around us. It celebrates the many advancements made in the development and exploration of the building material whilst concurrently, recognises the creativity and beauty with which the material is used.
Rachel Yeoh, Executive Director at YTL Cement, commented, “YTL Cement remains steadfast in our commitment to concrete being a sustainable building material, backed by innovation and continued development. The Concrete Awards is an apt opportunity to celebrate the many uses of concrete by recognising architects who push the boundaries of design and those that embrace the versatility of the material with ingenuity.”
Adjunct Prof. Ar. Adrianta Aziz, President of PAM echoed the sentiment, “Awards like the Concrete Awards are key indicators and drivers of industry-wide progress. The Concrete Awards will feature categories designed to highlight excellence in five key areas:
Submissions will be judged by a distinguished panel of seven jurors, comprising of award-winning architects, academics, and representatives from PAM and YTL Cement. Judging criteria will focus on design excellence, innovation, and sustainability in the use of concrete and cement materials, among others.
This initiative underscores the importance of fostering creativity and sustainable practices in architecture whilst facilitating and encouraging innovation and creativity in both concrete as a material and the many ways in which it can be used. Further details on the awards, including application processes, eligibility criteria, and submission deadlines, will be made available on the YTL Cement and PAM official websites in the coming weeks.
