Euro-Atlantic Sdn Bhd, a leading importer and distributor of specialty fruits, vegetables, and gourmet groceries, has launched a charity initiative to aid Palestinians living in Malaysia.
With the support of Malaysian retailers, this initiative centres on the sale of premium Medjool dates from Jericho, Palestine. Known as the Diamond of Dates, these dates are distinguished by their large size and sweet caramel aroma. Their sale is especially timely with the approaching month of Ramadan. Aptly named “Al-Talia”, meaning “a dew from heaven”, these Palestinian dates carry deep cultural and symbolic significance.
The charity initiative responds to the financial struggles of Palestinians in Malaysia, including refugees and students. In support of this cause, a cheque of RM50,000 was presented to Pn Nor Azreen Jamaluddin, Chairperson of SSEAYP Family Alumni Malaysia (SFAM), by Ms Ebby Loo, Managing Director of the Euro-Atlantic Group. SFAM, a non-governmental organisation endorsed by the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Malaysia, ensures that contributions are effectively and responsibly utilised to assist those in need.
Mr Raed Alzawbi, Cultural Officer for the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Malaysia, was also present to witness the handover.
Malaysia has long supported the Palestinian cause by extending humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Malaysia and Gaza. While the Malaysian government recently agreed to cover the fees of Palestinian students at public universities, both students and Palestinian refugees still require financial assistance for their living expenses.
Last August, a group of Palestinians arrived in Malaysia through a joint effort between the Egyptian and Malaysian governments to receive medical care for injuries sustained during the Gaza conflict. Additionally, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin has announced plans to establish a Malaysian Humanitarian Hub in Egypt to further aid the Palestinian people.
Euro-Atlantic’s “Aid Palestine with Dates” initiative is a small yet meaningful effort towards supporting Palestinians living in Malaysia.
