Uber is delighted to note the Malaysian Government’s continued support for the e-hailing industry, with a view to improve the overall national transport landscape.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the RM5,000 cash grant for taxi drivers intending to join the e-hailing industry. We welcome this move to empower more Malaysians with the choice to use technology for flexible earning opportunities and to raise their socioeconomic status,” said Warren Tseng, General Manager, Uber (Malaysia & Singapore).
“Our UberFLASH and UberTAXI products, which include taxis, have grown to hundreds of thousands of trips every week since launching a month ago in September. We are also pleased to confirm that the partnership between Proton, BSN, and Uber announced by the PM when he tabled the 2017 Budget is underway. We expect to announce the first recipients under this project soon.”
He said that as the Government continues to make good progress on implementing the TITP, which is aimed at improving the entire industry, particularly by ensuring public safety and protecting consumers, Uber is also preparing to help interested e-hailing drivers meet the standards set.
“Similar to our Fastlane Programme that was successfully implemented in Singapore to facilitate an efficient and effective transition during the implementation of their Private Hire Car Driver's Vocational Licence regulation, we expect to apply the lessons learnt in our neighbouring market to ensure an efficient and effective transition to this new regulatory environment for our driver-partners in Malaysia.”
