Penang has come under the spotlight in the past week due to severe floods. However, something good has come out of it - Malaysia has banded together to provide help in different ways to alleviate the hardships encountered in the state. oBike, the first smart dockless bike-sharing operator to launch in Malaysia, has also launched a PrayForPenang Campaign to help those affected by the flood. As part of this campaign, when 10,000 oBike users have completed their rides every day from 8 – 12 November 2017, oBike will donate RM2,000 daily to the Penang Storm and Flood Relief Fund.
Starting from 8 November 2017, oBike will be tracking all rides taken by its users in entire Malaysia, which includes Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, and Terengganu, where oBike is present in Malaysia currently. Each day when 10,000 users completed their ride, an amount of RM2,000 will be donated to the Penang Storm and Flood Relief Fund. On top of that, all rides completed by users within this period will also be free for the first 30 minutes, new users can also support by taking oBike rides with no deposit required, as an initiative by oBike to encourage its users to come together in extending their hands to those who are affected in Penang.
“We are very saddened by what happened in Penang, and we would like to contribute what we can to help Penang regain its vibrancy and beauty soonest,” said Ng Yong Ching, Business Launcher of oBike.
“This initiative is with the aim to not just put forward the amount of donation to aid the work in helping the Penang victims, but also to bring Malaysians and oBike users together in unity during this tough time.” he added.
To unlock an oBike bicycle, users will need to scan the QR code located on the bicycle with the oBike app, which is currently available on the App Store and Google Play. To return a bicycle, users can simply park in any designated oBike parking area or public bicycle parking area and then manually lock the bicycle by pulling the lock level downwards.
