FedEx Express (FedEx) the world’s largest express transportation company, has upgraded its aircraft fleet with the introduction of the Boeing 767-300 Freighter (B767F) in Malaysia.

This cargo freighter will further strengthen delivery capabilities in and out of Malaysia, providing overnight connections to 20 major cities in Asia, better connecting Malaysia to the region’s major trading centres, while facilitating two-business-day shipping services to the U.S. and Europe.

Operating from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang and Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas, the B767F has 106,000 lbs. of cargo lift, compared to the previous Boeing B757-200F aircraft accommodating 60,000 lbs.

The result is a 75 per cent increase in load and a 30 per cent increase in fuel efficiency.

“The introduction of B767F service is part of FedEx long-term commitment to delivering outstanding service to our customers in Malaysia, through the constant enhancement of our capabilities.

“With the growth of our local industries, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Klang Valley, the operational efficiencies of the B767F will enable us to meet the increasing volume of imports and exports to and from Malaysia,” said SC Chong, managing director of FedEx Express Malaysia.

The SME segment has been at the core of Malaysia’s economic transformation to an upper-middle-income nation and remains an important driver of employment and growth, accounting for 97 per cent of Malaysian businesses, 65 per cent of workforce employment, and 36 per cent of Malaysia’s GDP.

The Klang Valley has accounted for more than one-third of total SMEs in the country, with 19.8 per cent in Selangor and 14.7 per cent in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysian SMEs also contributed 17.8 per cent of the country’s total exports with an expectant rise to 23 per cent by year 2020.
