Fonterra’s foodservice business Anchor Food Professionals and the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (Worldchefs) announced Singapore’s Lim Wei Hrn and Finland’s Niall Larjala as the winners of the Global Pastry Chefs Challenge and Global Young Chefs Challenge respectively.
The competitions were part of the Worldchefs Congress and Expo 2018 which took place last week where each competition saw 10 chefs compete on a global scale for the championship title.
The Worldchefs Congress and Expo is the premier showcase for culinary innovation and is held once every two year in different locations around the world.
This year, the Worldchefs Congress and Expo 2018 was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and saw over 6,000 attendees, including chefs, culinary opinion leaders and business owners from 105 countries around the world.

“It was hard work, but being part of an international culinary competition such as this is already a privilege. The champion title is definitely the cherry on top,” said winner of Global Pastry Chefs Challenge, Wei Hrn.
Wei prepared intricate desserts to beat nine patissiers before emerging as the winner.
The Global Young Chefs Challenge saw chefs aged 25 and below present a well-balanced three course menu. Niall, who represented Finland and is part of the Finnish Defence Forces, won the championship title.
Malaysia was represented by Loi Ming Ai in the Global Pastry Chefs Challenge while Zhi Ling Mong represented Malaysia for the Global Young Chefs Challenge.
Apart from the competitions, various forums and breakout sessions were also held in which industry professionals addressed a range of topics related to culinary world.
This ranged from Culinology, new field that involves a blend of culinary arts and food science, to food waste and sustainability.
