Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, 18 November – In conjunction with the Festival of Light, Sunway has released a specially made video entitled “Light of Hope” highlighting the significance of togetherness, joy, giving, sharing and unity.
The video complements the #SunwayforGood Deepavali Cheer initiative, which provides bottom 40% (B40) income-group families with food aid – a great relief especially for the festive period.
The “Light of Hope” video is inspired by a true story of the #SunwayforGood Food Bank programme and underscores Deepavali as a celebration symbolising the triumph of light over darkness.
The story is about Raj, whose wife Dhinie and their daughter have lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic and are on a daily wage selling homemade muruku, coconut candy and jalebi.
Although it has been a tough year for them, the video’s main character is seen at the receiving end of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The family did not only lose their sources of income but also almost lost hope in celebrating the Festival of Light.
To reflect the meaning of “Light of Hope”, they then see a glimmer of light symbolising they are able to celebrate Deepavali upon receiving assistance via the #SunwayforGood Food Bank programme.
Currently, the #SunwayforGood Food Bank programme has collected more than 25,000kgs of food donations, and is on track to achieve its target of 40,000kgs by Deepavali.
The public are encouraged to continue making food donations at collection boxes in seven participating malls – Sunway Pyramid Mall, Sunway Putra Mall, Sunway Velocity Mall, Sunway Giza Mall, Sunway Geo, Sunway Citrine Hub and Sunway Big Box Retail Park.
Donations are ideally halal foods, including bulk dry goods, beverage, canned food, cooking essentials, herbs and spices. Personal hygiene products are welcomed too.
The “Light of Hope” video can be viewed on Sunway Group’s social media sites – Facebook, YouTube and sunway.com.my/lightofhope.
