MYNIC, the official registry for .MY domain names and a digital enabler for Malaysians believe that Malaysia is on the right track towards digital transformation.
“2020 has proved that digitisation is more important than ever. The COVID-19 pandemic and the enforcement of Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO) have unprecedentedly fast-tracked digital adoption among businesses in Malaysia. It has accelerated the growth of e-commerce, digital payments, and digital processes, as well as accentuated the importance of businesses having an online presence,” said MYNIC Chief Executive Officer YBhg. Datuk Ts. Hasnul Fadhly Hasan.
“Some shops were forced to close because they lost customers during the MCO and the affected businesses are predominantly without an online digital presence. On the other hand, those who marketed their businesses online and embraced e-commerce have helped them stay afloat and to the extent of expanding their businesses. The rapid shift from offline to online purchasing, a trend that is here to stay, will continue to enable more Malaysians to adopt digital.”
“The MCO has brought rise to several ‘Mak Cik Kiahs’, micro-SMEs, and rural entrepreneurs. The ambition and potential of digitalising businesses are apparent, and MYNIC, together with the Ministry of Communication and Multimedia shall continue to nurture this growing sector through our newly launched PRIME initiative,” said Datuk Hasnul.
“Our overall goal is to drive digital adoption among the micro-SME to strengthen their business position and increase digital competitiveness, which is why we offered 20,000 free .BIZ.MY domains worth RM1.6mil to micro-SMEs to help them transform their businesses digitally,” he said.
Datuk Ts. Hasnul hopes that MYNIC will digitally empower Malaysians and continue its outreach efforts to train aspiring entrepreneurs in rural and OKU communities to set up and transform their businesses from offline to online.
“Through MYNIC’s training programs, we aim to enable competitive businesses that contribute to Malaysia’s digital economy,” he said
