KUALA LUMPUR, 5 February, 2021 – Amazon Global Selling is holding its inaugural Amazon Southeast Asia Online Seller Summit 2021 for Malaysia on February 4 and 5, 2021. This first seller summit in Malaysia, themed “Go Global, Sell on Amazon”, aims to provide long-term educational support for Malaysians who are looking to sell on Amazon. This support builds on Amazon’s current initiatives such as the online seller education series, Seller University, and over 250 new tools and services to help sellers grow their sales in Amazon’s stores worldwide. The online event, joined by representatives from the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), industry partners, and sellers from Malaysia, garnered more than 1,000 registrations in total.
“Our government agencies such as the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation actively encourages SMEs to leverage on e-commerce websites to reach out to a wider spectrum of consumers worldwide. We are glad to see Amazon having its first virtual seller summit in Malaysia. This very event complements the many efforts of the Government of Malaysia in advancing digitalization throughout all value chains. We hope local SMEs capitalize on this opportunity by digitizing and internationalizing the uniqueness and desirability of Malaysian brands to the global audience.” said YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Senior Minister of Economy and Minister of International Trade and Industry in his opening speech.
“At Amazon, our mission is to be Earth’s most customer-centric company, and part of fulfilling that mission is connecting small businesses with customers. Through this virtual seller summit, we hope to support Malaysian sellers to tap into their potential and promote the future of Malaysia products via Amazon’s online stores. We have seen cross-border e-commerce continue to grow in the past year. Amazon’s innovative tools, services, and robust network worldwide will empower local SMEs to overcome operational barriers, embrace cross-border e-commerce opportunities, and expand their global footprint.” said Bernard Tay, Head of Amazon Global Selling in Southeast Asia.
Accelerating the transformation from offline to online
The pandemic has shifted people’s shopping behavior from offline to online, which creates the urgency for business to transform to digital. Amazon provides innovative tools, services, and logistics to support global sellers succeed. In the past year, Amazon has launched over 250 new tools and services to help sellers grow their sales in Amazon’s stores. Specific to the case of COVID-19, Amazon understands the impact COVID-19 had on many of our sellers and works hard to help them. Amazon’s online stores have enabled hundreds of thousands of sellers, including those from Malaysia, to sustain and even grow their sales despite COVID-19 crisis and beyond.
Malaysia possesses a competitive advantage in manufacturing and e-commerce.
