Kuala Lumpur, 13 September 2021 – In support of the local healthcare system’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or the “Exchange”), through its Yayasan Bursa Malaysia, recently donated 310 oxygen concentrators to the Ministry of Health.
The oxygen concentrators were handed over to the members of the Greater Klang Valley Special Covid-19 Task Force – Colonel Mohd Adlan Adnan, Deputy Joint Department Task Force Commander, Malaysian Armed Forces (“MAF”); Dr Md Annuar Abdul Samad, Cluster Head for Medical and General Logistics; and Dr Nurashikin Ibrahim, Cluster Head for Frontliners Social Support System – who accepted them on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
“The total number of COVID-19 daily cases continues to severely strain the Malaysian healthcare system and necessitates continued action to avert further loss of lives. In line with our commitment as a responsible corporate citizen, we constantly look for areas of need where we can best be of help and support to the country,” said Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia. “We hope that these oxygen concentrators will help strengthen the Ministry of Health’s capacity to deliver oxygen therapy in the management of critical COVID-19 cases in the country.”

The contribution of these oxygen concentrators, along with other crucial medical equipment and supplies, is very timely and will help our frontliners in treating COVID-19 patients effectively towards alleviating the rising COVID-19 cases in our country.”
In addition to the oxygen concentrators, a donation by Yayasan Bursa Malaysia to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (“MRCS”) was made for the purchase of two fully equipped ambulances and financial support to operate and maintain the said ambulance units.
“The need to support the healthcare system includes ambulances services. We hope this will enable giving those in need faster access to first aid support,” added Datuk Umar. “Having these additional ambulances will hopefully enable the Malaysian Red Crescent Society to save more lives.”
“Ambulance services are heavily demanded during the pandemic period and it is critical that we have enough ambulances to ensure uninterrupted transportation services,” said Hj. Hakim Hj. Hamzah, Honorary Secretary General, Malaysian Red Crescent Society Malaysia. “We are grateful for Yayasan Bursa Malaysia’s donation. This contribution would greatly benefit MRCS and elevate the quality of our services to Malaysians in need.”
The contribution of the oxygen concentrators and ambulance units is in addition to the RM3.1 million contributed and pledged by the Exchange as announced on 15 June 2021 for community-focused projects in areas impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
