KUALA LUMPUR, 4 March 2022 — Leading jobs platform JobStreet Malaysia and its parent company SEEK Asia, today announced the launch of ‘Asia’s Biggest Virtual Career Fair’, aimed to match thousands of tech and digital job opportunities to hundreds of thousands of candidates. This is part of SEEK Asia’s evolving ‘Let’s Get To Work’ campaign, which is targeted at encouraging participation and empowerment in the workforce.
The career fair will be held from 9 March 2022 to 11 March 2022, with some of Malaysia’s top tech and digital jobs in multinationals like Top Glove, RHB Banking Group, Dell Technologies, Intel, IBM and TIME. In line with the digital transformation theme, this innovative event features a mobile-first interface, to enable employers and candidates to seamlessly participate virtually, from countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Hong Kong.
Candidates and employers can access the virtual platform for on-the-spot, live interviews through real time connection via chat and online interview schedulers—no queues, and certainly no hassle. Career tools are also accessible to candidates who are looking to gain insights on emerging roles and salaries in tech companies, as well as masterclasses on writing winning resumes, and useful tips for candidates to ace job interviews.
Vic Sithasanan, Managing Director at JobStreet Malaysia, said: “JobStreet’s virtual career fairs have placed more than 2,300 happy candidates so far. At ‘Asia’s Biggest Virtual Career Fair’, we expect to place thousands more in tech and digital jobs. Virtual attendees have access to industry legends who will be sharing tips and tricks, and other industry secrets to a successful and meaningful career in tech. Imagine being in a career fair, minus the traffic and the parking fees. Best of all? Everything you want to do can be done with just a few taps. So ‘Let’s Get To Work’ in 2022 and be a hero in your own career journey.”
The virtual career fair is organised in response to the marked increase in the demand for tech talent. JobStreet Malaysia’s 2022 Job Report reported a 42.4% year-on-year increase in hiring from the computer and tech industry. In 2020 and 2021, the digital transformation of businesses in the Food & Beverage, Financial Services and Property & Real Estate industries spurred the demand for computer IT talent, creating a need for employers and candidates to amplify efforts in upskilling and reskilling to hone digital skills.
In addition, SEEK Asia’s Decoding Digital Talent report also highlights that digital workers are eager for job changes. In the report that surveyed over 9,000 digital talents across countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Denmark, and Switzerland, the report observed that 63% of digital talents are actively seeking better career opportunities in other roles, while 49% are looking for a new challenge when seeking a job change. The career fair presents vast opportunities for digital talent to explore new roles and challenges.
Jane Cruz-Walker, Chief Marketing Officer at SEEK Asia, said: “While the technology industry has been exhibiting the highest rates of staff turnover, we have observed that this has also opened the doors for fresh talent and mid-career job switchers, by providing them with unique career options and enhanced opportunities to grow. Never has there been a better time to apply for jobs. SEEK Asia has launched Asia’s Biggest Virtual Career Fair to connect job seekers with Asia’s top companies, and provide them with an accessible platform to search for jobs that are meaningful to them. With our superior understanding and insights on each market, as well as our passion for technology, we provide job seekers and employers the best opportunities by continuously innovating and providing enhanced value. We have also observed that the pandemic has accelerated numerous organisations' digital transformation, to meet the sudden shift in consumer needs, and we are happy to be able to successfully partner with organisations to succeed in transforming their businesses by investing in people, tools, and processes.”
