Johor Bahru, 18 May 2022 – Regency Specialist Hospital (Regency) is poised to be the largest private hospital in Southern Malaysia. The new 10-storey hospital block increases the hospital’s capacity up to 500 inpatient beds and by 120 medical suites. Regency aims to develop its hospital into a leading hospital in Southeast Asia, providing comprehensive and quality care to the population.

Executive Director and Group CEO of HMI Group, Ms. Chin Wei Jia shared that as a multi-disciplinary private hospital, the blueprint of Regency’s growth focuses on increasing its capacity and capabilities to provide holistic care for the local residents and foreign visitors. Chin highlighted that Regency also continuously enhances its Centre of Excellence by focusing on strengthening key expertise, upgrading facilities and equipment, establishing partnership with overseas healthcare institutions and embracing technology and digitalization in its clinical and business processes.
In Malaysia, the rising number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is estimated to cost Malaysian economy an estimated RM8.9 billion, equivalent to 0.65% of its GDP due to productivity losses and premature deaths1. Against this backdrop, Regency’s expansion with state-of-the-art medical facilities as well as all of its 6 Centers of Excellence (CoE) are attuned to reduce the occurrence of premature mortality caused by NCDs and drive accessible healthcare.
CEO of Regency Specialist Hospital, Ms Serena Yong added “Regency wishes to work closely with the public sector in helping to combat the rising number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The hospital expansion includes its new stroke unit,a dedicated cardiac and neuro facility, cancer centre and radiotherapy facility, rehabilitation unit, hemodialysis unit among others.”
Being the first private hospital in Johor to be approved by the Ministry of Health, Singapore to use MediSave, Regency’s commitment in its development within the Iskandar Malaysia region reflects its great dedication and determination in supporting Johor state’s effort in promoting health and medical tourism as well as creating job opportunities for the local community that is expected to grow by 7.6% in the next five years to reach RM91.1 billion by 20252.
