KUALA LUMPUR, 28 SEPTEMBER 2022: In support of Kempen Beli Barangan Malaysia by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), Malaysian Bumiputra Designer Association (MBDA) has announced the return of MY Gaya Month for the second time.
This campaign that was curated to promote Malaysian-made products through fashion will take place for 1 month from 6th October until 10th November, 2022 at Fahrenheit88. Throughout the MY Gaya Month period, the event will be divided into 3 parts namely:
1, Fashion emporium that will showcase various collections of locally-made products made by 20 selected talented designers and brands
2. Fashion forum that will involve special invited speakers who will be discussing topics revolving around the fashion industry in Malaysia, such as Fashion & Technology, Digitalisation in Fashion and Business in Fashion. The speakers are Zaihani Mohd Zain, Leslie Variyan, Darren Choy, Faizal Hamidi, Dr. Thomas Ong Poh Shing, Amdad, Tuan Abd. Azaharee Abdul Wahid and Bon Zainal Harun.
3. Fashion showcase & runway which will feature 6 segments that show off the revolutionary collections of 20 local designer brands made for various categories including Activewear, Streetwear, Kids, Couture, Bespoke, Resort Wear, Accessories as well as Batik and Songket.
All of these events will take place at Fahrenheit88 throughout the campaign period. By showcasing the numerous collections at MY Gaya Month, the event will further elevate the Malaysian fashion industry and encourage the interest for local products, driving the ecosystem to be more supportive within the country and beyond.
Bon Zainal Harun, the Founder of Malaysian Bumiputra Designer Association said, “I founded MBDA in 2018 with an initial 20 designers. And as of today, we have a growing number of 35 members. Through MBDA, my vision is to enhance our local fashion industry by nurturing a vibrant local designers’ community in Malaysia and strengthen our unique local offerings for local and international markets. This aligns with the objective of MY Gaya Month.”

Sidec as the strategic partner for MBDA & supporting partner for MY Gaya Month - Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) is a subsidiary company of Invest Selangor Berhad that is mandated to lead the digital transformation of Selangor as ASEAN’s digital hub by nurturing digital talents, accelerating startups, empowering businesses and encouraging digital investments and emerging technologies within the state.
Initially, the KPDNHEP’s ‘Kempen Beli Barangan Malaysia’ is meant to create awareness on the quality of local products to compete with international brands, encouraging the sale of local products for national sustainability, while also creating new job opportunities at the same time.
