TDM Berhad ("TDM" or "the Group"), a Shariah-compliant security company listed on the main market of Bursa Malaysia with core businesses in plantation and healthcare, proudly announces that it has been named Company of the Year in the Plantation and Healthcare category for Sustainability Leadership Award at the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia 2024 awards. YB Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, officiated and presented the award to the winners, and Haji Mohd Mardi Ismail, TDM's Head of Risk Management, Integrity, Compliance & Sustainability, accepted the award on behalf of the company at the ceremony held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
This award is a recognition of TDM's commitment to practicing sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). TDM Group, through its plantation division, TDM Plantation Sdn. Bhd. and healthcare division, Kumpulan Medic Iman Sdn. Bhd. (KMI Healthcare) has demonstrated excellent performance by highlighting various initiatives that positively impact the community and environment.
"This ongoing effort and dedication from our team highlight our commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into our plantation and healthcare operations. This recognition not only enhances TDM's reputation but also affirms our responsibility to the community and the environment. TDM aims to continue leading in sustainability practices to help preserve our planet," said Haji Najman Kamaruddin, Executive Director of TDM Berhad.
Building on the success of awards received on our sustainability and CSR activities in recent years, in 2023 TDM has invested RM1.9 million towards various CSR programs. These programs emphasize community development, education, sports, and environmental conservation through sponsorships, donations, and partnerships with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). These initiatives have positively impacted the communities we serve, protected the environment, and advanced sustainable development.
Additionally, TDM recently received a 3-star rating in the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Index series, following the semi-annual review in June 2024. TDM was listed among the top 5 highest-rated plantation companies out of 39 listed plantation companies. This achievement also sets a benchmark for us to move forward in pursuing sustainability and long-term success by continuously improving ESG practices as the core of our journey.
In the plantation division, we employ sustainable methods that not only boost productivity but also safeguard biodiversity. The company's dedication to sustainability is evident through our adherence to Malaysian standards, including certifications from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO). Our sustainability projects in the plantation division encompass Biogas plants in Sungai Tong and Kemaman, Terengganu; the RELeaf and RELife projects, which focus on tree planting in operational areas unsuitable for palm oil cultivation to restore forests along riverbanks and steep slopes; and the River of Life and Living Together Elephant initiatives.
Meanwhile, KMI Healthcare has earned a reputation as a trusted and preferred healthcare provider in the community. Recently, the organization won the GlobalHealth Asia Pacific Awards in Phuket, Thailand, for Malaysia's Community Specialist Hospital of the Year. KMI Healthcare also prioritizes patient and community well-being by conducting various CSR programs, including free health screenings and health awareness campaigns.
"This achievement is not just a milestone for TDM but also a testament to our commitment to innovation and the development of impactful CSR programs, with ESG principles at the heart of our mission," added Haji Najman Kamaruddin.
