The Story Book, an event space dedicated to run storybook-themed activities and performances has recently opened its doors in Plaza Arkadia, Desa ParkCity.
The shop is the first of its kind to encourage people to discover stories from books through interactive events and performing arts.
“Many people, especially the young generation, find it hard to read books these days and social media particularly has contributed to this phenomenon.
The cold and quiet facade of traditional bookshops simply do not appear inviting enough to encourage people of this generation to love books or reading,” said Jeanisha Wan, director of The Story World Sdn Bhd.
“With the activities organised by The Story Book as well as the events we host for partners, we hope to encourage people of all ages to once again discover the magical world of stories within the printed sheets of books.
“In The Story Book, people do not just read stories in books but they get to experience them with all their senses by listening, watching, performing and participating in interactive activities”, added Wan.
Since its soft opening early last month, The Story Book has organized two events catering to both children and adults.
Both its ‘Beauty and the Beast storytelling’ event for children and its ‘Reading Romeo and Juliet’ event for adults received strong response from the public.
Some attendees came from as far as Kajang and Serdang to attend the events.
“We also want to give the book-loving community a platform to host readings or book related events in our place. Many of such activities are currently held in cafes and clubs.
With The Story Book we hope to provide this community with a place they can call ‘home’ whenever they want to have book gathering or talks”, said Wan.
Wan added that she chose to open The Story Book there due to it being strategically located among a high concentration of both government and private schools as well as education centres and it can be seen as the shop is directly adjacent to an international school and a number of dance and music schools.
The Story Book is also home to Bookalicious’ pop-up bookstore and retails ice cream and buns from food partners.
The event space can be rented out for private and corporate events and workshops as well.
Sukhdev Singh, general manager of Township Management, Perdana ParkCity Sdn Bhd shared his delight to have The Story Book as their latest tenants in Plaza Arkadia, Desa Parkcity.
“Their unconventional concept of bringing stories from books to life through activities and performances will definitely benefit our community here, by giving people easy access to storytelling activities and story-related artistic pursuits,” he said.
A full day of activities themed ‘Discover the Story’ was held on 10th March as part its grand opening.
Other events lined up in March include ‘Alice in Wonderland Tea Party’ for children and ‘Tolkien Reading Day’ for adults.
