Shah Alam, Selangor, 22 August 2022 – Established on 1 August 1964, the Selangor State Development or Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) was tasked to develop new growth centres, explore vibrant and sustainable residential areas, and develop industrial and business centres in the state. 58 years later, with 13 subsidiaries, 3 of which are public-listed entities, spanning property and development, real estate, construction and engineering, to wholesale and retail, educational services as well as the healthcare and recreational sector, PKNS continues to support the social and economic growth of the state with a holistic recovery plan.
Speaking about the organisation’s 58th anniversary recently, CEO Datuk Mahmud Abbas said, “As the development arm of Selangor, PKNS is committed to supporting the state’s efforts to retain Selangor’s position as the top contributor to Malaysia’s GDP. Marking our 58th anniversary is an opportunity for us to re-establish PKNS as an organisation committed to supporting Selangor’s economy beyond housing and property, to more much needed contemporary services related to healthcare, trade-oriented activities and innovation.”
Extending its commitment to promote the state’s socio-economic growth, PKNS has nurtured over 41,000 business owners through various programmes over the last 27 years. “Taking one step forward in extending the existing entrepreneurial programme, PKNS is developing a building designed to be a one-stop center for aspiring entrepreneurs under PKNS programmes,” Datuk Mahmud added.
With approximately 2,000 clinics under Selgate Corporation, PKNS aims for the group to develop more healthcare facilities, explore merging and acquisition opportunities with existing healthcare providers, probe strategic partnerships in investment and equity shareholding as well as management services and administration of corporate employee healthcare benefits; all with a view to providing affordable quality healthcare.
Proving its dedication to provide a better life for all, PKNS plans to develop assisted living facilities, beginning with the introduction of its Selcare Hospital. With the aspiration to create value for the state’s economy, benefiting the state’s residents and targeted community at large, the hospital will focus on catering to local residents’ needs. From dedicated care facilities to a wide range of social and recreational amenities and activities, PKNS aims to promote active and healthy lifestyles among residents of all ages.
Notwithstanding its fair share of challenges, particularly those caused by the pandemic and other factors such as inflation, PKNS remains confident in its well diversified strategic recovery plan. “The biggest contributor to our recovery plan lies within our well-diversified holistic approach. Aside from our core focus in affordable housing, PKNS is also aggressively strengthening our presence in a variety of other sectors,” Datuk Mahmud explained.
“Selangor has tremendous opportunities to attract higher value investments. As its state agency, PKNS is committed to build on the attractiveness of Selangor by developing and enhancing the state’s infrastructure,” Datuk Mahmud Abbas said.
Selangor showed signs of revival in 2021, with a 5% increment of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) compared to 2020. The state remained as the largest economy in Malaysia, with a value added of RM343.5 billion, compared to RM327.1 billion in the previous year. PKNS is confident in its holistic approach in sustaining and enhancing business growth whilst supporting Selangor as an attractive hub for investors.
