As the Hindu community across Malaysia prepares for the Festival of Lights, IJM Land Seremban 2 continues its tradition of spreading joy and support to local families in need through its annual Deepavali Charity Cheer Programme. This year, the programme focused on brightening the celebrations of six underprivileged families by providing them with essential financial aid and daily necessities.
As part of its ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), IJM Land Seremban 2 identified six families in the Seremban area who have been facing financial challenges. Each family received RM1,000 in cash and daily essentials worth RM600, including rice, cooking oil, festive cookies, and other groceries, allowing them to embrace the joy of Deepavali alongside the rest of the community.
Datuk Chai Kian Soon, Senior General Manager of IJM Land Berhad shared that this year marks the programme’s seventh anniversary. “Each year, we meet families who, due to financial difficulties, are unable to fully experience the vibrant celebrations of Deepavali. Through our support, we aim not only to ease their financial burdens but also to create an equal opportunity for them to join in the festivities.”
Among this year’s beneficiaries were Madam Komathi Nyana Tambi, whose family has faced significant hardships. After suffering a stroke during the MCO, she has been unable to work, and her husband, who relies on a prosthetic leg, is also unemployed. Their household’s only source of income is their 19-year-old son, who works in a factory to support the family. Another recipient was 51-year-old Madam Vali Perumal, who has been supporting her two children on her own after the sudden loss of her husband to a heart attack, working as an operator to make ends meet.
The programme also extended its support to last year’s IJM Land myHome Programme beneficiary, Madam Komala Tanjoh Maleh, whose family, including two school-going sons, faces financial challenges due to limited income. Other recipients, including Mohana Babu Raman, Kogulabalan Gunasilan, and Madam Komathy Arumugam, also received assistance to alleviate their financial burdens.
“The resilience demonstrated by these families highlights the importance of our ongoing commitment to making a meaningful difference. During Deepavali, we hope to provide them with a moment of relief from their daily struggles, enabling them to spend precious, worry-free time with their loved ones. As a community, we are determined to continue our efforts and make more significant impact in the lives of those in need,” concluded Datuk Chai.
